Finance Minister Urges Change in Mentality Regarding Studying Abroad

Educationpatra, Kathmandu. Minister of Finance Dr. Prakasharan Mahat emphasized that there should be a change in the Nepali mentality of emphasizing foreign studies.

The minister has expressed his concern about the financial burden on the family and the possible shortfalls that may occur while studying abroad. Minister Mahat stressed that the notion that studying abroad guarantees higher education and a prosperous future should be reconsidered.

He emphasized that after the students go abroad, the financial responsibilities are greatly increased and there is no guarantee of success in every aspect of the family. This type of action needs to be reversed, he said.

Narrating his own experience of studying abroad, the minister said, going abroad was a rare thing. If you get a full scholarship, it is appropriate to study abroad, but our income does not cover paying money.

Minister Mahat also narrated the challenges he faced in the education sector by actively participating in the democratic movement, while he revealed that it was impossible at first to get a passport for foreign studies because he was involved in the leadership of the Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh and the advocacy of democracy.

Minister Mahat praised the presence of public campuses across the country, especially in remote areas with limited resources. He said that the government is trying to provide grants to support these organizations.
